VE Day Celebration
To mark the end of our project we invited everyone who had contributed their stories and photographs to a VE day style party. Over 130 people turned up! Food was inspired by wartime rationing and Corned Beef and Spam were the order of the day. Many people dressed up in wartime costume.
Entertainment was provided by Bushfield School Year Six children who took part in the project to learn about the Home Front. They performed wartime songs, including an original song they had written themselves based on the transcripts of taped interviews. Their dances included the Jitterbug and the Lambeth walk. They chose their own music and the dances they wanted to perform after listening to original records of the time.
The Living Archive band performed some Vera Lynn numbers. The Grande Finale was the James Goff Big Band providing the big band dance tunes of the era. Bushfield school children learnt all about VE day during the school project and made all the bunting, flags and wall hangings to decorate the hall to create a real VE day atmosphere.
